Out of the Mouth of My Babes!
When Benji was first learning to talk he was going under the table and my sister Tracie told him to Duck. Benji immediately started quacking! It was the cutest thing ever. I am amazed at how a child’s brain works and how quickly they learn new things. I have tried to learn French in high school, Spanish in college and Portuguese on the mission. Language is hard and these kids pick it up fast and with no fear. I love it. So this column is devoted to funny things that my kids say as they learn English.
Benji:
March 2009:
I asked Packer if he was poopy. Packer Says No. Benji says, “Packer, are you honest?” so cute and ionnocent
After St Patricks Day Benji says: “Remember that Green Cake? That was delicious. And it tasted like Lemonade.”
“This smells Be-U-Tee-Ful” Refering to the bathroom as he cleaned up his own pee.
“We need to screw drive it.” When a brought out a baby toy that needed new batteries.
“You make yucky things.” At the dinner table of course!
“Who stinks? Did you toot?” funny how they learn this soo quickly.
“I am extinct.” When playing dinosaurs and he died. I asked him where he learned that word and it was from Blues Clues. I also asked him what that meant and he said that it is when dinosaurs die then they are just bones and they are extinct!
“My house is lame.” When I made him come home from a day at Pacens.
“Will Dad die on his birthday because he is so big?” just trying to figure out birthdays and old people and dying.
“Ginormous.” He uses this word more than Big – it’s fun to say.
July 2009
“I’m just going to go at the work my dad is at cause I want to see my dad.” This is Benji out of the blue talking about when he is big and goes to work someday. I asked him why and he said that he would probably be scared so he wants his Dad to be there.
Packer:
July 2009:
This kid can say anything now. In tonights prayer he was thankful that we could have cookies
that’s our boy!
March 2009:
Packer is an echo these days. Whatever we say he will say. And his favorite game is to point out everything in the room and tell you what it is, ie. clock, train, mouse, picture…
We had the lawn aerated, now when we go out side Packer picks up the dirt clods and tells me that they are “poopies”.
Packer just found his vocabulary. And is talking like crazy. He said his first prayer last month.
“treat” this is said with a big smile on his face.
“apple” this is any fruit that might be out on the counter – besides banana everyone knows that word!
October 2008:
First words: Joel, NO!, Mama, Dad, Apple, Pumpkin, Ball, …
Cali:
July 2009: She is a babbler. No words but she uses her voice effectively. she calls out for me to pick her up all the time. It’s cute.
March 2009:
“coo” that’s it so far.
